When I grow up I want to be…

An astronaut.
A ballerina.
A doctor.

We know you probably didn’t go to career day as a young child with aspirations to impact the greater interfraternal community. You might have ‘wished’ for a different path in early years. Your journey to where you are may have been untraditional. You might consider yourself ‘just stopping through’ the fraternity/sorority realm in a quest for a different role or consider this profession your life’s work. Whatever the case may be, the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors is working to support you, so you can support the BIG dreams of the students you impact everyday.

It’s important to remember that as the Association supports you, the Foundation supports the Association, individual members and our wider communities.

We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Over the last three fiscal years, we have been able to grow our contributions by 240% in grants to support AFA’s educational programs and individual scholarships. The vitality of our mission is illustrated by our committed Board of Directors, our supporters willing to make a donation today, our members of the various giving societies, or find ways to simply support our efforts through various fundraising channels.

Foundation Mission
To secure, invest and distribute the necessary resources to support the educational objectives of AFA and other relevant research, scholarship and educational programming that furthers the fraternity/sorority advising profession.

Silent Auction

Since 1994, the Silent Auction has been the AFA Foundation's most popular event, raising a sum total of $326,750. Donors and buyers help the Foundation fund projects aimed at strengthening our profession, including research and professional development programs. At the 2015 Annual Meeting, the Silent Auction brought in over $16,000! Donate items to the 2016 Annual Meeting Silent Auction here.

Because You Believe Stickers

Because You Believe stickers are a great way to acknowledge and thank your colleagues for believing in you! At the 2015 Annual Meeting, we raised almost $6,000 from members who wanted to honor a mentor, fellow volunteer, former coworker, or friend. All sticker sales benefited the AFA Foundation and publicly recognized someone who made a difference in a member's life. Pre-purchase your Because You Believe stickers for the 2016 Annual Meeting here.

The Amicus Sequentes Circle

“I value sustained philanthropic giving and know that’s what I’m doing when I added AFA Foundation as a percentage benefactor in my 401K documents, it’s a small act that will contribute to the long-term health of AFA.”
–A member of The Circle

The AFA Foundation has established a planned giving recognition society known as the Amicus Sequentes Circle, or “friends to those who follow”. The Amicus Sequentes Circle honors those who leave a legacy for the future of the Association through specific gifts or bequests. If you have included the AFA Foundation in your will or estate plan and have not notified the Foundation, please do so, and you will be recognized as a member of the Amicus Sequentes Circle. Members of The Circle will be listed to be recognized or you may give anonymously. The Foundation’s Board members and staff welcome your inquiries and will assist you in becoming a member of the Amicus Sequentes Circle.

The Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors Foundation’s giving mission is to provide ongoing financial support and resources in an effort to aid the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors in the fulfillment of its educational objectives.

In keeping with this mission, the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors Foundation shall give preference to educational (scholarships, fellowships, professional development) grant requests from the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors or organizations that are collaborating with AFA. Consideration will also be given to grant requests from other individuals and organizations that further this mission.

Educational program grant request for greater than $1000 may be submitted for review twice in each calendar year by October 15th and April 15th. For programs that occur January 1st – June 30th, requests must be submitted by October 15th and notification of granted funds will occur no later than January 1st. For programs that occur between July 1st and December 31st, grant requests must be submitted by April 15th and notification of granted funds will occur no later than July 1st.

Grant requests for under $1000 will be reviewed on a rolling bases, but must be received no later than 6 weeks prior to the event or program requesting support.

Justin and Heather Kirk Research Grant Application
AFA Foundation Program Grant Application

Please send all grant requests to AFA Foundation, Attn: Grants Committee.

  • Activities supported by grants and program-related investments must be educational or scientific, as defined under the appropriate provisions of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code and Treasury Regulations.
  • Grants are available for both members and non-members of the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors.
  • Individual grants may not be given to members of the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors Foundation Board.
  • Grants may not be used for undergraduate purposes.
  • Recipients may not receive grants two years in a row, other than on-going annual contributors as determined by the board.
  • The duration of a grant is for one year.
  • All funds which are not spent at the end of the grant term must be returned to the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors Foundation.
  • Because its funds are limited in relation to the great number of worthwhile proposals received, the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors Foundation directs its support to activities that are within its current interest and are likely to have wide effect.

Annual Meeting Scholarships: This year, the AFA Foundation is offering 50 registration scholarships for AFA members to attend the Annual Meeting. Annual Meeting attendees value the opportunity for professional development and relationship building; therefore the AFA Foundation believes supporting AFA members in this endeavor is a high priority. Annual Meeting scholarships are made possible through the generosity of our donors.

Professional, Graduate, and Affiliate members are encouraged to apply for a scholarship to cover the registration expense of the 2016 Annual Meeting. Scholarship applications for the Annual Meeting are due September 30, 2016. Click here to apply. If you have any questions, please contact us via email.
