Last week, new legislation seeking to amend the Higher Education Act of 1965 was introduced in the House of Representatives. Republican Reps. Matt Salmon of Arizona and Pete Sessions and Kay Granger of Texas introduced H.R. 3403 the Safe Campus Act of 2015 and Republican Reps. Pete Sessions of Texas and Susan Brooks of Indiana introduced H.R. 3408 the Fair Campus Act.

The Association is working to diligently gather information and clarity on what is proposed in order to better understand the impact it has on all of our members, and students, before publicly responding in haste. We are in continuous conversations with a variety of constituents and desire to be partners in addressing an issue that is of great concern within the Higher Education landscape from a solution-based lens.

The Association is focused on providing education and resources to properly prepare our members for what may come in the future as it relates to both the Safe Campus and Fair Campus acts. We encourage our members to review the bills and engage in conversations with colleagues in Fraternity and Sorority Life about the potential implications of these bills on your individual campus.
