As a professional member association, Association of Fraternity and Sorority Advisors provides exceptional experiences, a vibrant community, and essential resources for the success of fraternity/sorority advisors. It is the mission of AFA to enhance its members’ abilities to foster impactful fraternity/sorority experiences. In accordance, the vision of AFA is to be the catalytic force in aligning the fraternity/sorority experience with the changing dynamics and enduring principles of higher education. AFA is committed to professional development, academic and applied research that examines the entire spectrum of the fraternity/sorority experience and the advising profession, and collaborations within and between the higher education and interfraternal communities.
The Director of Education and Programs for AFA is responsible for the coordination, implementation and evaluation of educational programs for our members. AFA seeks an exceptional candidate that values the fraternity/sorority experience and is excited to provide educational opportunities and programs to those that work with fraternity/sorority members directly.
Job Responsibilities
Education & Program Implementation
  • Continually survey (both formally and informally) members to determine educational and professional development priorities
  • Develop a strategy for general education in the field of fraternity/sorority advisors, as well as specialized populations (graduate students, new professionals, mid-level professionals, seasoned professionals)
  • Work with educational partners to develop curriculum that is aligned with the stated core competencies of AFA
  • Promote, plan and execute established AFA programs, including AdvanceU, First 90 Days and The Collective
  • Assist in planning regional meetings (drive-ins) or similar types of events 
  • Promote, plan and execute pre-conference workshops and institutes for the Annual Meeting
  • Serve as the staff liaison to the Annual Meeting educational programs committee to ensure programs are congruent to professional development priorities and core competencies
  • Develop and/or collect guides and resources in a shared space (resource library) to be accessed by members for their professional use and development
  • Serve as the staff liaison to the professional development committee 
Evaluation
  • Create, distribute and synthesize program evaluation results; use these results to improve programs and report back to donors or related individuals/organizations
  • Determine when educational programs need to be created, updated or retired based on staff and member feedback
  • Review evaluations of educational programs at the Annual Meeting and make recommendations for future educational programs
Research & Best Practice 
  • Coordinate ongoing research and development to establish best practice for the field of fraternity and sorority advising; ensure program offerings are reflective of identified best practice
  • Work with the appropriate members of the AFA and AFA Foundation boards to coordinate and implement the research grant application and selection process
