Navigating Complexity & Difference: Developing a Cultural Paradigm Shift

Wednesday, September 30 | 2:00-3:30 p.m. ET

AFA Members: Free | Non AFA Members: $25

This AdvanceU is designed to explore how fraternal professionals can build environments towards inclusive thinking and can create more productive and welcoming communities. This engaging workshop will provide participants tools to foster a more inclusive community by addressing intersectionality and implicit biases while defining what “diversity” means for fraternity/sorority life professionals. The program’s learning will allow participants to explore the intersectionality and implicit bias theoretical framework to create a cultural shift through critical thinking and acceptance. Attendees will be equipped with critical thinking skills to help guide students as they move through this new environment.

By attending this program, participants will learn:
  • How to think critically when exploring difficult issues on campus like systematic racism, social justice training, and campus unrest.
  • How to navigate complex issues with your fraternity/sorority members through best practices, programs, and initiatives.
  • Explore how implicit bias can create barriers to inclusion.
  • To discuss and assess how intersectionality can create cross-cultural collaboration and engagement.
  • A better understanding of equity and inclusion policies, procedures, and actions to lead to encouraging learning environment.

Program attendees will develop their Core Competencies of Navigating Complexity and Working across Differences.
