Develop your AFA Core Competencies of Program Administration, Navigating Complexity, and Driving Results.

The AFA Mid-Career Professionals’ Institute has been designed to help close the gap and provide training, tools, and best practices to help you take your work to the next level.

From managing up and down, overseeing program administration, navigating complexity, and driving results – this program will address strategies and best practices that will help you be a more effective mid-career professional and set you up for future career advancement.

As a result of participating in the AFA Mid-Career Professionals' Institute, professionals will be able to:

  • Describe their personal behaviors and motivators and how they impact their work with others.
  • Identify and apply the six practices of leading a team.
  • Articulate best practices for program administration areas of work.
  • Practice following ethical operational guidelines.
  • Apply strategies for navigating complexity.
  • Evaluate their personal work, and the programs they are responsible for, against the organizational priorities of their institution/organization.
  • Apply best practices for developing program outcomes and measuring impact.
  • Identify opportunities for continued growth on their personal career journey.
  • Develop an action plan for their long-term career aspirations and current professional growth needs.

The AFA Mid-Career Professionals' Institute will be held virtually. See the schedule below for more details.

Schedule at a glance

AFA has made the difficult decision to move the Mid-Career Professionals’ Institute to a virtual experience. AFA has created a new structure where we will host programming via Zoom meetings to break down the curriculum into segmented learning that will begin at the end of July as initially planned and move through the start of September.

The new program design will still provide the program’s educational outcomes and create intentional time where participants can grow their professional network.
