Oracle Research Writers' Retreat

Join us July 17-20, 2018 for the inaugural AFA Oracle Research Writers' Retreat. We're excited to bring together scholars conducting research in the field of fraternity and sorority life for a week of inspiration, motivation, and writing!

The retreat is hosted by the team at Oracle: The Research Journal of the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors. We will convene at William & Mary, the birthplace of the American college fraternity. Phi Beta Kappa, the first Greek-letter organization, was founded by five William & Mary students in 1776. In this historic setting, we will offer community with fellow researchers, programming each day related to academic writing and the fraternal experience, and most importantly time and a quiet space to write.

The registration fee is $100, which covers three nights of lodging on-campus at William & Mary, several meals, access to research librarians and the W&M Libraries Special Collections, and transportation to/from the airport or train station. In the first year, the cohort of attendees is limited to fifteen participants.

Participation in the retreat is not a guarantee of publication in Oracle; all submitted manuscripts will go through our regular blind peer review process. Applications to participate in the retreat will be accepted on a rolling basis, and we will let you know your status within five days of application. Please fill out the brief application form to let us know a bit more about yourself and your goals for the AFA Oracle Research Writers' Retreat! If you are selected, we will then send you a link to complete the registration.

Applications to participate in the retreat are due Monday, July 9 by 11:59 p.m. If you have any questions, please email Jim Barber, Oracle Editor.

To best maximize our learning time at the retreat, all participants will stay at a currently unoccupied university-owned fraternity house. Please note, all participants will have a roommate and share suite style bathroom unless an accommodation is requested.
