The Collective is a pilot program to help Association of Fraternity and Sorority Advisors (AFA) members connect, support, and develop one another throughout the 2017-2018 membership year. Participation in this program will allow you to develop connections with professionals across your region that are likely experiencing similar successes or difficulties. You’ll also be able to gain outside perspective, expertise, and guidance from individuals of diverse backgrounds and experiences, all allowing you to continue your own professional and personal development as a fraternity and sorority life and higher education practitioner.

We will place interested members into groups made up of three to five individuals based on professional experience. This group dynamic will allow for everyone to contribute and learn from each other. By integrating the concept of relational leadership, your group will build on the foundation that leadership is “a relational process of people together attempting to accomplish change or make a difference to benefit the common good." Group members will be provided monthly prompts and in-person meeting options at association events and programs to encourage relationship development.

Member Responsibilities

  • Actively engage with group members and participate in a full group activity at least once per month
  • Identify and share resources with group members
  • Review and prepare any provided discussion prompts, readings, videos, or other resources
  • Connect with group members at association programs and events
  • Submit ideas and suggestions for monthly prompts to your respective Regional Director
  • Encourage other association members to participate in The Collective

Time Commitment

  • Participation in this program will require approximately 5 hours per month.

Please contact your respective Regional Director with any questions or concerns regarding the program. We are currently no longer accepting applications for the 2017-2018 membership year. Applications were due Monday, June 26, 2017.
